Especially for works council members we have developed a knowledge session to learn more about properly assessing shift patterns of your hospital employees.

Risk assessment and evaluation is a key issue for works councils. Works council members are expected to make sure the hospital employees have a safe, healthy, and environmentally-friendly working environment. We have therefore developed these knowledge sessions especially for the members of works councils in hospitals, which will enable you to properly assess the shift patterns worked by the hospital employees.

Programme

Part 1   Legislation and regulations:

  • Working Hours Act, Working Hours Decree, and the collective labour agreement for hospitals;
  • application of special shifts (stand-by and on-call shifts).

Part 2   Guidelines for healthy shift planning:

  • the impact of shift patterns on the health of employees;
  • the assessment of shift rosters for physical and social work stress;
  • general rules for shift planning;
  • practical case studies.

Part 3   The role of the works council in shift planning:

  • the complexity of shift patterns in hospitals;
  • how are the rosters formulated and what is the (expected) role of the works council?
  • practical tips on how to assess shift rosters;
  • risk assessment and evaluation of shift rosters: a concrete approach and toolkit.

Dates

The course consists of 3 sessions divided over 2 days. After the first day you will start putting what you have learnt into practice, then on the second day you will share and discuss your experiences with the group.
